Christmas

Posted in December 25th, 2007
by Christine in Holidays

The moon was big, bright and beautiul as if God were saying, “I am here!”  I wonder if it was this bright 2000 years ago when He came as a child that first Christmas Eve. (Although as most of us know, He wasn’t really born this time of year,  Americans wanted a  “Special Day” set aside [...]

Hanukkah - The Miracle Story

Posted in December 12th, 2007
by Christine in Holidays

The story of Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukkah)  begins in strife during the reign of Antiochus IV. It is known as the Festival of Lights because it celebrates God’s glory in an ancient victory of the Jews over their enemies.
In 165 BC, Antiochus, king of Syria, marched his army of soldiers into the kingdom of [...]

Thankfulness

Posted in November 30th, 2007
by Christine in Holidays

A year has past since I wrote a post on Thanksgiving.  Much has happened since then, so much so that my perspective for the year is one of Thankfulness.
A new city where I unexpectedly landed has begun to feel familiar and warm. A new company emerged from the ashes of the old.   New friends and a new church home.
A lot of new experiences [...]

In Honor of our Soldiers on Memorial Day

Posted in May 28th, 2007
by Christine in Holidays

The boys are tired now, the ones that survived.
Bodies lay across the blood - stained grass, whom hours ago were alive.
I shiver as the cold wind rolls up the field and by the dead,
it steals away these soldiers souls.
On this day, much blood was shed.
I can still smell the gunpowder in the air, from the cannons mighty blows,
I just [...]

Why celebrate Passover ?

Posted in April 11th, 2007
by rothmaniac in Holidays

Christians should celebrate passover because Passover is all about miracles and remembering the miracles that God has perfomed to release us from our captivity.
One of the symbols of Passover is Matzah - unleavened bread. It is ceremonially ‘broken’ to symbolize the state of humanity void of God.
Why is there so much broken in this world? [...]

Easter Lives on in the Spirit of Christ

Posted in April 9th, 2007
by Christine in Holidays

The Joy of Easter lingers long after the sun goes down.
The Joy of Easter fills my heart again today
The Joy of Easter when shared among family or friends
Is the blessing we receive day after day after day after day
Because Easter is more than a one-time event.
Christ died, than rose and continues to live
He lives to help us live
He [...]

Oh how He loved us

Posted in March 27th, 2007
by Christine in Holidays

Far ..far away
A child was born
He laughed and he played
In the early morn
And when he would cry
His mother would come
Oh how she loved him
Oh’ how she loved him
Far ..far away
A young man spoke
Of the kingdom of God
And our need to be saved
He healed the sick
And He gave to the poor
Oh how He loved them
Oh’ how [...]

God is With Us

Posted in December 26th, 2006
by Christine in Holidays

Tis the end to a very long and difficult year.  Tis the Beginning of something Bright and Warm to Come. Praise God. He is Always Here….no matter how great the storm.
This morning I am reminded of the scene of our Saviors Birth, Mary and Joseph and Christ huddled together in a stable or cave to keep [...]

Heaven and Nature Sing with Joy

Posted in December 4th, 2006
by Christine in Holidays

Joy to the World
The Lord has come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven & Nature Sing and Heaven & Nature Sing,
And Heaven & Heaven & Nature Sing!
It is an amazing song written by Isaac Watts in 1719.
It is one of my favorite songs. I could sing the first
stanza everyday because it [...]

Thanksgiving is about perspective:

Posted in November 24th, 2006
by Christine in Holidays

Thanksgiving is about perspective:The very word conjures up images of Thanksgiving past and present. Even if for a moment, I reflect on the settlers of this nation who gave thanks to God for life itself and everything they had, and they had very little. They were a people who embraced a culture far different from [...]
